Faster Payments Sort Code Checker
Faster Payments is a new service, launched in May 2008, which enables banks and other financial institutions to process phone, internet and standing order payments within a few hours.
If your bank or building society has confirmed that it can offer the Faster Payments Service and you want to use it you can find out whether the account you are sending money to is able to receive a payment this way by checking the sort code here:
Remember: the sort code checker is only a guide. It confirms that the account that you wish to send money to can accept a payment through this service. If you are making an urgent payment, always ensure that the recipient has checked with their bank that they can receive Faster Payments.
Top tips before making a Faster Payment:
- check that you are able to send a Faster Payment from your account – your bank will be able to confirm what type of payments – whether all online, phone and standing order payments – you are able to send from your account;
- check that the payment you are making is within the value limit set by your bank – some banks have placed lower value limits on payments that customers can make;
- check that the recipient’s account can receive Faster Payments
- if you want to pay a bill, you should check the timescales on the back of the bill to ensure your payment is made on time; and
- always double check the account number and sort code to ensure that you have the right details, as once you have made a Faster Payment it cannot be cancelled.
If your bank does not offer Faster Payments yet, you can still make your payment online or over the phone using the existing three-day Bacs service.
Below is a list of the banks who are members of the Scheme and are currently sending payments on their customers’ behalf. Some banks have finished rolling out their service to customers whilst others are not yet operating at full capacity. In addition to the 13 members of the Faster Payments Service, other banks and building societies may be enabling customers to receive and /or send faster payments. We have compiled a list of other financial institutions whose sort codes support Faster Payments being made to their accounts. You will need to check with your own bank or building society if you want to ensure that you can send a payment from your account at one of these institutions.
Some of the 13 members have separate commercial, private banking or offshore (Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man) establishments. These are not included in this list.
