New Technology and Developments

A core role for APACS is to support and encourage the establishment of new payment services which includes harnessing new technology to better meet the needs of the banking industry and its customers.

Faster Payments in the UK
In May 2005 - UK banks announced plans to develop a new infrastructure to speed up internet, phone and standing order payments. This massive project will revolutionise the UK's automated payments infrastructure.

Remote Card Authentication
Fraudsters are increasingly trying to commit crime to reflect the way we behave – as we shop more online or by phone (card-not-present transactions), fraudsters are increasingly targeting those areas. A remote card authentication system (or token-based authentication system) is one key initiative being considered within the next generation of solutions to tackle this type of fraud.

The Future of Plastic Card Payments
The plastic card industry is constantly changing and new technology is at the forefront of global debit and credit card innovation. Over the next decade cardholders may see some of the developments outlined here.
