APACS Committees
APACS has a number of APACS Interest Groups which focus on specific payment areas. Currently, there are four Interest Groups
Card Payments Group
Card Payments Group (CPG) is the leading industry association of organisations that participate in UK card payments and is responsible for formulating and implementing policy on non-competitive matters. Its membership consists of the 15 largest card issuers and acquirers in the UK and a representative of the community of smaller banks and building societies that issue cards.
Cash Services Group
Ensuring the smooth, efficient and secure recycling of notes and coins requires co-operation. The Cash Services Group is the lead group for co-operative cash issues. Its objectives include
- to act as a focal point for the provision of strategic direction on co-operative (non-commercial) issues for cash
- to act as the cash industry lobby group, except on matters relating to Scottish notes and Northern Irish notes and coin
- to maintain public confidence in the integrity of the cash distribution process, and prevent the occurrence of a disorderly market (e.g. under-supply of notes and coin geographically)
- to manage the industry cash holdings and redistribution in a cost-effective and efficient manner having due regard to the needs of the personal and business sectors including other financial services institutions
Cash Services Group members comprise institutions involved in wholesale note and coin operations, together with the Bank of England and Royal Mint.
Liquidity Managers Group
Liquidity Managers Group, with subsidiary groups, addresses the liquidity management concerns of settlement banks in CREST and CHAPS together with other strategic settlement risks. An increasingly large part of the Group's work focuses on the consolidation of European securities settlement systems.
Electronic Commerce Group
The Electronic Commerce Group (ECG) is the senior UK payments industry body with responsibility for setting and implementing strategy on non-competitive aspects of electronic banking and related activity.
ECG plays a pivotal role in a wide range of tactical and strategic initiatives that help maintain and safeguard the integrity of online banking.
